Minotaurs - Terminators with Thunder Hammers - Badab War - Finished

Finished all the details finally. Again the pictures don't show the contrast as well as I would like, you cant see the different red layers on the shoulder pads and Bull heads for instance. The photo quality aside they came out very nicely and my Minotaur Army is looking good!

Here is a picture of the Squad Leader. I used freehand to paint the small symbol (upside down V) on for a nice touch of detail. I also like the darker metal on the Thunder Hammer heads as a contrast. I love the Forge World Shoulder pads!

Here are the rest of the pictures.

My army now consists of:

2 Tactical Squads, 1 Scout Squad, 1 Biker Squad, 1 Dreadnought, 2 Terminator Squads, 1 Rhino and 1 Landraider.

I am now officially out of models to paint for this army. I want some Assault Marines for sure, probably a Devastator Squad, Predator a Veteran Squad and some Heroes to lead them all!

Let me know what you would like to see next and maybe it will help me decide as well..lol

Enjoy

Minotaurs - Terminators with Thunder Hammers - Badab War - WIP2

Managed to paint some of the base colours of the details.

Will be layering them next with some highlights and applying washes for shading.

Small update but time has been short this last week for hobby.

Minotaurs - Terminators with Thunder Hammers - Badab War - WIP

I have been meaning to paint these guys for a long time now and finally I have. First off I purchased the shields from Scibor Miniatures and while I am not the first to do this I think they fit perfectly with the Minotaurs theme.Secondly I purchased the Forge World Minotaur shoulder pads which I also think are outstanding.

I have primed  the models in black then base coated with Tin Bitz.

Next I painted a good coat of Brazen Brass followed by a generous wash of my custom made verdigris mix.

Lastly I dry brushed Brazen Brass again to finish off the armour.

Next up the details.

Dark Angels Deathwing Terminators - Dark Vengeance - Finished

I have finished all the highlights and the basing. The models have come out very nicely however after taking the pictures the limitations of my very old camera are very evident.

In the pictures you cant see the different shades of paint on the armour nor can you see the red highlights on the assault cannon. The green tabard has another area the camera has had difficulty showing.

I believe the core problem is the combination of colours, when models have any large red areas then I have this issue.

Anyhow, enjoy the pictures.

Dark Angels Deathwing Terminators - Dark Vengeance - WIP 2

I have now started to work on the Base colours of the rest of the model. I painted black all the areas will be metallic or grey first. These areas will then be painted with Boltgun Metal or Codex Grey next followed by a Nuln Oil black Wash. I will finish these areas with a drybrush of each colour mentioned to add a highlight to the raised parts.

All the red areas I base-coated with Scab Red then highlighted with Blood Red and then a wash of Reikland Fleshshade. Finished with a highlight of Mephiston Red.

The green areas were base coated with Dark Angels Green followed by a highlight of a 60/40 mix with Goblin Green, next a wash with Caliban Green and a highlight with the 60/40 mix again.

See the finished shots in the next post.

Dark Angels Deathwing Terminators - Dark Vengeance - WIP

Back onto my Dark Vengeance box set and this time I am trying out my hand on the Deathwing Terminators. The colour scheme is a new challenge as I generally stay far away from light colours over large areas of a model, they can be difficult to paint well, I am thinking of whites and yellows. The Deathwing colour scheme however is a bone colour so anything close to that is  a good choice as far as authenticity goes. I also had a look at various other hobbyist takes on the scheme in particular 'From the Warp' blog.

I started off with a grey primer, see top picture.

I then followed that with a good base coat of GW Karak Stone.

Next I gave the models a good wash with Agrax Earthshade to define the shading of the model.

Next was to clean up the wash by re-paint the stone colour.

Next step was to paint the areas of the armour that would catch the light with a 50/50 mix of Karak Stone and Bone.

Now that I have the armour pretty much done I will continue withe the rest of the model.

Stay tuned.

40k Knights of Blood Terminators Revisited

Earlier I had in mind a project to collect and paint a Knights of Blood army and did a test scheme which turned out to be too bright and clean to reflect the dark nature of this chapter.

I redid the test Tactical Marine in a darker scheme similar to the one in the latest Codex and liked the result.

I planned to roll that over to my Terminators and the assault squad I was working on but didn't get around to it as I was distracted with all the other new things coming up.

Well here are the results of my revamp to the Terminators. I didn't repaint the entire model but concentrated on the armour and the shoulder pads.

I like the black armour mix I have created and will definitely continue to work on a solution to my Knights of Blood shoulder pad icon sculpting problem, the crossed swords.

I have an idea in mind!!

Minotaurs - Terminators with Lightning Claws - Badab War - Finished

All I had to do was finish off the shoulder pads and some scrolls and the eyes.

I love these Forge World Pads because of the amazing detail. I decided to paint the base red then the Terminator Crux in a Bone finish with the Minotaur symbol in Brass / Bronze.

Same for the other side minus the Minotaur symbol.

I am really pleased with the way they have turned out. Next on the list will be the Terminators with Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields!

Minotaurs - Terminators with Lightning Claws - Badab War - WIP

With all the excitement of the Horus Heresy releases and me getting into the Flames of War Open Fire starter set I have neglected my personal 40k army, my beloved Minotaurs!

These Terminators have been languishing in my 'to do box' for well over a year now, cant believe its been that long! As you can see they are the models from the Assault on Black Reach box set with the arms chopped off and converted to Lightning Claws from an Ebay purchase. The finishing touch is the addition of the brilliant Forge World Minotaur shoulder pads.

To start I primed the models in black then painted a thinned down coat of black paint to get a nice overall finish. My base coat was Tin Bitz ( see top picture ).

Next was a coat of Brazen Brass.

I washed the entire model with Coelia Green.

Then dry-brushed with Brazen Brass.

I painted the 'white' metal areas in black and the other details in Scorched Brown.

Now all I need to do is finish the details and they should be ready to join their battle brothers.

Creating Your Own Chapter - Terminators Revisited

Next up on my list of units to repaint is my Terminators. As you can see the bronze look is pretty different to the yellow.

Here are some pictures from other angles.

This is how they looked before.

Here are some WIP shots of the bronze makeover.

I am really warming to this scheme.
