Badab War - Fire Angels - 40k

Continuing on with my Badab War project, I saw a very handy solution with re-purposing a Silver Skulls Marine I had painted up awhile ago. The colour scheme is very similar in that is is all silver with some different trim.

I cut off the skull and sanded the shoulder pad down. painted the pads silver ( see the Silver Skull post for the method) and the pad trim with Mephiston red then added a red ink for the gloss effect.

To complete the model quickly I did not try and replicate the Fire Angels emblem (cross) as this would be relatively straight forward to do by using some thin plasti-card, drawing the cross onto it and then cutting it out. At least that is the way I would do it.

Another good looking colour scheme and easy to paint. The pictures below look very cool indeed.

Badab War - Astral and Tiger Claws

Now that I have the two miniatures completed I thought it would be good to show them together.

Enjoy

Badab War - Tiger Claws - 40k

The obvious chapter to paint up next is the Tiger Claws!

I was using this picture as reference and started with a black primer followed by layer of watered down black paint.

I then painted the shoulder pad and legs with two thin coats of Shining Gold next I applied a heavy wash of a 60/40 black/brown mix

While I was painting the gold I was reading up on some of the background and realized that it should be orange not gold! maybe the name should have given it away..Tiger (black and orange) Claws.

I repainted the gold with a custom metallic orange I mixed up for my Chaos Reborn faction and followed with a heavy wash of a 60/40 black/brown mix followed by another drybrush with the orange. The plan for painting the legs was to stipple the orange and black to merge the join where the colours meet but that was abandoned in favour of a brush smudge.

The rest of the armour was painted with my custom mix of metallic black, also finished off the rest of the details, scrolls, pouches etc.

I used dried tea (redbush) leaves for the base to tie the model and base together. Not sure if that worked as well as imagined because the leaves are very orange.

Like the Astral Claws a very nice looking scheme if not better and also pretty easy to paint.

Badab War - Astral Claws - 40k

My interest in 40k was a direct result of the Badab War. The article by Belloflostsouls was fantastic and I wanted, as many people probably do, to paint up a model in each of the faction colour schemes.

This then directly resulted in my love for the Minotaurs, which I have been collecting as my main army ever since. My desire to paint all these different legions pretty much was put to the side as I collected and painted up my Minotaurs.

Well no more, here is the next model Astral Claws after my Minotaurs and the Marines Errant efforts.

I primed the model in black followed by a good coat of Leadbelcher.

Then I covered the model with a 60/40 brown black wash and drybrushed with Leadbelcher once dry. Painted in the base colours for the pouches and shoulder pad.

Then highlighted the armour with Runefang Steel, the shoulder pad with Shining Gold and finished off the other details like the eye lenses and scrolls.

Pretty easy scheme but very effective. It is one of my favourites.

Minotaurs 40k - Assault Marines - Badab War - Finished

All that was left for me to do was to add highlights to the shoulder pads and finish off the details like the scrolls and eyes to complete the models.

My Minotaurs are growing with each of these squads and my problem is thinking of what  to add next??

It is nearly Xmas and a Forge World set of Asterion Moloc and Ivanus Enkomi would be a fantastic addition to lead my army.

Hope you like theses guys.

Minotaurs 40k - Assault Marines - Badab War - WIP

I have bits from a box of Death Company, Grey Knights and Sanguinary Guard that I used to make up my 5 Assault Marines with Jump Packs, finished off with more Forge World shoulder pads.

As with all my Minotaurs I primed the models black then base coated with Tin Bitz.

Next I painted a good coat of Brazen Brass followed by a generous wash of my custom made verdigris mix.

Lastly I dry brushed Brazen Brass again to finish off the armour.

I then painted in all the base colours of the details.

So far looking good, finished article coming up next.

Minotaurs - Terminators with Thunder Hammers - Badab War - Finished

Finished all the details finally. Again the pictures don't show the contrast as well as I would like, you cant see the different red layers on the shoulder pads and Bull heads for instance. The photo quality aside they came out very nicely and my Minotaur Army is looking good!

Here is a picture of the Squad Leader. I used freehand to paint the small symbol (upside down V) on for a nice touch of detail. I also like the darker metal on the Thunder Hammer heads as a contrast. I love the Forge World Shoulder pads!

Here are the rest of the pictures.

My army now consists of:

2 Tactical Squads, 1 Scout Squad, 1 Biker Squad, 1 Dreadnought, 2 Terminator Squads, 1 Rhino and 1 Landraider.

I am now officially out of models to paint for this army. I want some Assault Marines for sure, probably a Devastator Squad, Predator a Veteran Squad and some Heroes to lead them all!

Let me know what you would like to see next and maybe it will help me decide as well..lol

Enjoy

Minotaurs - Terminators with Thunder Hammers - Badab War - WIP2

Managed to paint some of the base colours of the details.

Will be layering them next with some highlights and applying washes for shading.

Small update but time has been short this last week for hobby.

Minotaurs - Terminators with Thunder Hammers - Badab War - WIP

I have been meaning to paint these guys for a long time now and finally I have. First off I purchased the shields from Scibor Miniatures and while I am not the first to do this I think they fit perfectly with the Minotaurs theme.Secondly I purchased the Forge World Minotaur shoulder pads which I also think are outstanding.

I have primed  the models in black then base coated with Tin Bitz.

Next I painted a good coat of Brazen Brass followed by a generous wash of my custom made verdigris mix.

Lastly I dry brushed Brazen Brass again to finish off the armour.

Next up the details.

Badab War - Marines Errant - Finished

Well here he is, all decked out in my take on the Marines Errant colour scheme influenced by the Forge World pictures. I have placed him on my Volcanic Base made from ground Pepper Corns and Weathering Pigment. ( see link basing-with-ground-black-pepper )

I think this could be a fantastic scheme on an army and it is very easy and quick to paint, the basic troops don't have the gold trim. If you add in the chapter symbol to the shoulder pads and some Blood Angel Sanguinary Guard Torso's for Sergeants or Captains and tabards here and there you will have a fantastic looking army.

Hope you try out this technique on your models and let me know if you do.

Vitor.
